Today’s misadventures of our malevolent minority-elect president begin with a look back at the shit storm that was the first complete year of his failed presidency while making himself the center of attention for all the wrong reasons, Trump’s biggest con, Trump seeks credit for Women’s march – just not the credit he deserves for it, Trump’s ethics and conflict of interest scandals keep growing, how to fight Trump’s lies and delusions and use them against him, Trump used political fund donations illegally to pay off a porn star to keep her mouth shut, how passage of Trump’s fraudulent tax reform scam will enable the destruction of Medicaid, the damage done to America’s reputation around the world is unbelievable, growing desperation from Trump and the GOP as Trump’s Russia scandal continues enveloping him and their conspiracy theories aren’t working, the irony of having a man that told more than 2,000 lies during his first year in office testifying under oath will prove quite entertaining, Trump’s obstruction of justice and money laundering is well-documented by Mueller’s investigation, how Trump built an obstruction of justice case against himself, Trump is finished if he fires Mueller and much more.

Trump And Lawmakers Got Cash From Payday Lenders, Then Weakened Lending Rules article from The International Business Times. –
http://www.ibtimes.com/political-capital/trump-lawmakers-got-cash-payday-lenders-then-weakened-lending-rules-2642460

After profiting and pushing more deregulation while appointing corrupt cronies to destroy sections of the government they’re in charge of, Trump and his GOP brown shirts destroyed the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which was put in place to protect consumers after the massive fraud that caused the crash in 2008:

“Less than two months after President Donald Trump tapped his budget director to run the independent federal agency tasked with protecting U.S. consumers from harmful and predatory financial practices, the agency has moved to undo a rule intended to prevent payday lenders from preying on low-income Americans. The reversal — which follows recent congressional proposals with the same objective — is a major win for the $40 billion payday lending industry, which has recently started delivering big money to Trump and to congressional critics of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

The payday lending and title loan industry has been battling the CFPB since Congress created the bureau in 2010 — and the fight has intensified since the bureau started crafting rules to regulate short-term lending in 2015. Since then, payday lenders have given $1.5 million to congressional lawmakers and another $300,000 to the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee. The industry also spent another $6.2 million on politics at the state level to combat regulation over the same time period, according to the National Institute on Money in State Politics. (A patchwork system of state-based laws currently governs the industry; a handful of states ban payday loans entirely.)

The industry’s shrewdest investment may have been the money it delivered to Trump after he won the 2016 election. While payday lenders weren’t lining up to support Trump during the presidential election, in January after Trump’s win, Advance America, the nation’s biggest payday lender, donated $250,000 to Trump’s inauguration. Title loan magnate Rod Aycox and his wife each donated $500,000 for the event; payday lender Checks into Cash chipped in another $25,000. In November, the Community Financial Services Association of America, the industry’s trade group, announced its annual conference and expo would be held at the Trump National Doral resort in Miami.

As that money flowed to Trump and his business empire, the Trump administration has made moves to help the industry — in particular, it took decisive action to undermine the CFPB’s previous efforts to regulate lenders…”

A year into his presidency, Trump is breaking one of his big ethics pledges article from Think Progress. –
https://thinkprogress.org/trump-hotel-foreign-payments-792a943af41d/

Trump pledged to donate all profits his hotel received from foreign governments to the U.S. Treasury… so it’s no surprise that Trump lied:

“An Associated Press report on Monday showed that despite President Trump’s pledge to donate all profits his hotels received from foreign governments, his business has not yet made a single payment to the U.S. Treasury.

In 2017, the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. hosted several events entertaining groups from Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Kuwait, as well as another promoting business between the United States and Turkey. The initial deadline to make a donation of those profits was set for the end of last year, but the deadline came and went with no payout.

“Trump officials, who have openly questioned how closely they should scrutinize their guests…now say they would have ‘information to share’ near the end of next month,” the report added.

Overall, the Trump Organization has collected hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits from various foreign governments in the past year, according to a report released earlier in January by Public Citizen…”

Against the Great Rethinking about Trump article from The Week. –
http://theweek.com/articles/750016/against-great-rethinking-about-trump

Why the time to quit being critical of Trump is not now:

“For almost the entirety of President Trump’s first year in office, the lion’s share of his critics have treated him not just as a flawed or ill-prepared president, but as a fundamental threat to democratic government in the United States.

A year in, however, this unified front of Maximum Emergency is crumbling under the weight of second thoughts. Not only is Trump’s polling ticking upward, with his approval rating recently breaking 40 percent for the first time since last May in FiveThirtyEight’s aggregation of polls, but commentators from across the political spectrum have begun to pull back from the dire warnings that have characterized so much analysis of the president since his implausible victory 14 months ago.

Conservative pundit Mollie Hemingway was once a Trump skeptic, then became a leading anti-anti-Trump pundit, and now openly embraces the president on the grounds that, despite his ill-tempered tweeting, he’s advancing a conservative governing agenda on several fronts. Center-right columnist Ross Douthat has never wavered in his opposition to Trump, but the fears that led him last May to call for Trump’s removal from office under the 25th Amendment have faded. Now Douthat tells us the Trump presidency is more farce than tragedy, with an array of institutions hemming him in on all sides, allowing him to play-act the role of a tyrant on Twitter while the mostly normal work of government goes on around him.

Meanwhile, from the left, historian Corey Robin points out that centrist rhetoric about the nascent authoritarianism of the Trump administration isn’t reflected in the actions of Democratic politicians, who have so far failed to propose any concrete measures to stand against the supposedly imminent end of democracy in America…”

Americans don’t think Trump is a genius article from The Raw Story. –

Americans don’t think Trump is a genius

The majority of Americans know that our dimwitted dip shit is not a genius, and in fact he’s not very smart at all:

“Most Americans do not agree with President Donald Trump’s recent claims that he is a “very stable genius.”

An overwhelming 73 percent of Americans said they did not think the president was a genius while just 21 percent of respondents in the ABC News/ Washington Post poll released Sunday agreed with the president’s claims that he is a genius. Trump’s physician said last week that he had no concerns about the president’s cognitive ability, but the poll showed that Americans were split on their concerns about Trump’s mental stability.

48 percent of respondents said they think Trump is mentally stable while 47 percent said they think he is not. Dr. Ronny Jackson conducted President Donald Trump’s physical exam on January 12, and included mental function tests at the request of Trump himself.

“I’ve found no reason whatsoever to think the president has any issues whatsoever with his thought processes,” Jackson told reports, saying that he had no concerns about Trump’s “cognitive ability” or “neurological function.”…”

When our national embarrassment morphs into our worldwide embarrassment:

“World leaders are serving up some shrewdly veiled criticism of Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, days before the U.S. president is due to speak there.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked things off with a nearly hourlong address on Tuesday morning, warning explicitly of the dangers that protectionism and trade barriers pose to the world, which he likened to the threat of terrorism.

Modi’s remarks came just hours after Trump slapped tariffs on imported solar-energy components and large washing machines ? a move decried by Asian nations as the “America First” leader’s trade battle with China escalates.

“Forces of protectionism are raising their heads against globalization,” Modi cautioned. “The negative impact of this kind of mindset cannot be considered less dangerous than climate change or terrorism.”…”

The Trump White House offers America government by spoiled brats article from Salon. –
https://www.salon.com/2018/01/24/the-trump-white-house-offers-america-government-by-spoiled-brats/

What happens when our impotent, popular vote losing Orange man-boy in the White House doesn’t get his way:

“He hadn’t been in office for two months when the spoiled brat in chief threw his first temper tantrum. It was a Saturday morning, and Donald Trump was spending the weekend at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, when he woke up and, without consulting political advisers or lawyers, tweeted this at 6:35 a.m.: “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” What precipitated this petulant little burst of pique? Well, two days earlier, his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, had just recused himself from any investigation into whether the Russians had meddled in the 2016 election, and Trump was mad as hell about it.

In order to follow our spoiled brat in chief down this particular rabbit hole, let’s go back and recall what we knew on March 4, 2016. Did we know there was a formal FBI investigation into ties between Russians and the campaign of Donald Trump on that date? No, we didn’t. Did we know about all of the meetings Attorney General Sessions had had with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak? No, we didn’t. Sessions would “remember” his meetings with Kislyak later, and he still hasn’t “remembered” that he discussed the Trump campaign with the Russian Ambassador, as the Washington Post reported last year. Did we know that there had been other contacts between Trump’s people and Russians during the campaign and transition? Did we know, for example, about the meeting between Don Jr., Jared Kushner, and Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and four Russians at Trump Tower back in June of 2016? No we didn’t. Did we know that Kushner had had no fewer than two meetings with Russian Ambassador Kislyak in Trump Tower during the transition before Trump took office? No, we didn’t. Did we know that Kushner had met with Sergey Gorkov, buddy of Vladimir Putin and head of the Vnesheconombank, the Russian state owned bank currently sanctioned from doing business in the United States? No, we didn’t know that, either.

Then who did know all of this stuff way back on Saturday morning, March 4, at Mar-a-Lago? Oh, that’s right. The spoiled brat in chief knew, which is probably why he threw his little tantrum with his thumbs and tweeted himself down a rabbit hole that would lead to FBI Director James Comey appearing before the House Intelligence Committee about two weeks later and testifying that he knew of no evidence whatsoever that President Obama had had Trump’s “wires tapped,” but, oh, by the way, just in case you’re wondering, the FBI had had a criminal and foreign intelligence investigation of the Trump campaign going for over nine months.

This little jewel of information led eventually to Trump firing FBI Director Comey, and after that, to the appointment of Robert Mueller as Special Prosecutor, in charge of the investigation into ties between Trump and his campaign and Russians who sought to influence our elections in 2016. This is the nightmare confronting the spoiled brat in chief today, as he wakes up every morning and hears that another of his top people has been questioned by Special Prosecutor Mueller and his team…”

Mueller’s investigation reveals the depths of financial crimes committed by Trump and his obvious attempts at obstructing justice. The question is, what will be done about it?:

“Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s attorneys interviews with White House staff and former members of Donald Trump’s campaign team, along with thousands and thousands of documents, prove the president not only attempted to block investigations into his lawlessness but also is guilty of money laundering on a grand scale, sources close to the investigation report.

As many have expected, Trump’s failure to release his tax returns, is driven by his fears that those documents provide a road map to his money laundering and financial ties to Russia and other enemies of America.

Ousted strategic adviser Steve Bannon confirmed Trump’s money laundering activities in to author Michael Wolff in his book,”Fire and Fury,” which sent the White House into “circle the wagons” defense mode at the beginning of 2018.

Bannon also confirmed collusion with Russia during the campaign — something he denied earlier…”

The Obstruction Case Is Getting Solid article from Slate. –
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/01/the-obstruction-case-is-getting-solid.html

Trump keeps shooting himself in the foot while digging his own grave:

“President Trump tried to fire special counsel Robert Mueller. That fact, reported Thursday night by the New York Times and confirmed by sources for the Washington Post and other papers, shreds the assurances from Republican lawmakers that Trump would never attempt such a thing. It also bolsters key elements of the case for impeachment. The aborted attempt to dismiss Mueller shows that Trump has sought to control the Russia investigation, that he has faked his reasons for disrupting it, and that he has ignored warnings that his behavior could be illegal.

The first thing that stands out is the flimsiness of Trump’s purported rationales for firing Mueller. According to the Times:

First, he claimed that a dispute years ago over fees at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va., had prompted Mr. Mueller, the F.B.I. director at the time, to resign his membership. The president also said Mr. Mueller could not be impartial because he had most recently worked for the law firm that previously represented the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Finally, the president said, Mr. Mueller had been interviewed to return as the F.B.I. director the day before he was appointed special counsel in May.

What an odd list. The golf dispute, on its face, is trivial. There’s no record of Trump complaining about it in public, and, in fact, according to the Post, there’s no record of an exchange: “Mueller had sent a letter requesting a dues refund in accordance with normal club practice and never heard back.” So there’s no reason to think that Trump ever heard about it or that Mueller cared enough to follow up. The Kushner complaint is nonsensical. If anything, it implies that Mueller would be inclined to favor Trump. The same goes for the FBI job interview. When Mueller took the special counsel job, he was being wooed and flattered by Trump, not rejected…”
