Trump Has Deep Links to Organized Crime: Federal Investigators Know It and the Public Is Catching Up article from AlterNet. –
http://www.alternet.org/why-trump-going-be-unable-hide-his-deep-connections-organized-crime-figures-investigators

“As Trump built his empire, he attracted a criminal element whose ties still bind.

As President Trump discovers the prerogative of unilaterally making war, the media gaze has turned away from the ongoing FBI, House and Senate investigation of his Russia ties to the simpler dramas of cruise missiles, big bombs and tough but loose talk on North Korea.

Yet even the “mother of all bombs” cannot obliterate the accumulating body of evidence about his relationship with Russian organized crime figures and the not unrelated question about whether he and his entourage colluded with Russian officials in the 2016 presidential election. The story, notes Talking Points Memo’s Josh Marshall, is “Hiding in plain sight.”

The evidence of pre-election collusion between Trump and the Russians, while growing, is far from definitive. The evidence on Trump’s organized crime ties is stronger. Says Marshall:

“If we’d never heard about Russian intelligence hacking of the 2016 election or Carter Page or Paul Manafort or Sergei Kislyak this [Trump’s organized crime connections] would seem like an extraordinarily big deal. And indeed it is an extraordinarily big deal.”…”

Trump’s White House on defensive over transparency article from Politico. –

Trying to blame his predecessor for his profoundly ignorant corruption:

“The administration tries to shift the issue back to Barack Obama.

The White House was forced Monday to defend its controversial positions to keep its visitor logs secret and President Donald Trump’s tax returns private.

Despite marches across the country last weekend aimed at pressuring Trump to release more information about his taxes, press secretary Sean Spicer maintained that the White House will not unveil the president’s returns while he is under audit by the Internal Revenue Service.

And under fire over the White House’s decision Friday to buck Barack Obama’s precedent by withholding visitor logs, Spicer said the prior administration was the one with a transparency issue…”

Trump is heading for a do-nothing presidency article from Business Insider on Yahoo! News. –
https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/donald-trump-heading-nothing-presidency-143508525.html

“”George W. Bush, but racist.” That’s what Jonathan Chait of New York magazine says President Donald Trump is turning into as he abandons some of his more idiosyncratic campaign positions and starts listening to Republican Party regulars who favor foreign wars and tax cuts for the rich.

This comparison is unfair — to George W. Bush, who accomplished things, whether you liked those things or not.

I agree with Chait that Trump is failing to promote and advance a policy agenda of his own. But the likely result is that he will do very little, not that he will achieve what a conventional Republican president would achieve if given a Republican Congress to work with.

I think Trump is so inept that he will be unable to get a major tax cut out of a Republican Congress. And I certainly hope I am right that he is too lazy to start a ground war.

If Trump does not get us all killed, I expect his presidency will look surprisingly unimportant in retrospect…”

‘Emoluments’ Challenge To Donald Trump’s Ethics Conflicts Gets A Big Boost article from The Huffington Post. –
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-emoluments-conflicts-of-interest_us_58f62ccfe4b0da2ff8636f8a

“NEW YORK – An ethics watchdog that sued President Donald Trump in January over violations of the so-called foreign emoluments clause of the Constitution has added new plaintiffs to its legal challenge — all in hopes of putting the case on stronger footing.

The group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed an amended complaint in federal court on Tuesday that now lists as parties the Restaurant Opportunities Center United, a nonprofit restaurant coalition, and Jill Phaneuf, an event planner. Both ROC United and Phaneuf claim they’ve been directly harmed by a loss of business and wages related to the Trump Organization’s dealings with foreign governments that seek its patronage.

Rather than seeking money damages from the president, Phaneuf ? who liaises with embassies and other clients seeking to do business with Washington-area hotels — and ROC United want a declaration from a federal judge that Trump’s ongoing ties to his own properties are unconstitutional.

“So long as violations of the Emoluments Clauses are permitted to continue, ROC United’s members will continue to suffer from unfair competition as foreign states, the United States, and state and local governments divert their business to restaurants in which Defendant has a financial interest,” the amended complaint asserts…”

THE TRUMP RESISTANCE: A PROGRESS REPORT article from The New Yorker. –
http://www.newyorker.com/news/john-cassidy/the-trump-resistance-a-progress-report

“Saturday was mild and cloudy in Philadelphia—good marching weather for the thousands of anti-Trump protesters who gathered at City Hall and made their way down Market Street to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. The atmosphere was upbeat—festive, almost. Many members of the crowd were carrying homemade signs, and their chants filled the spring air: “What do we want? Trump’s tax returns. When do we want it? Now.” “We want a leader, not a tax cheater. We want a leader, not a friggin’ tweeter.”

Eighty-five days into the Trump Presidency, similar scenes played out across the country: from Los Angeles to Boston, from Seattle to Raleigh. In Palm Beach, about three thousand people kicked up a racket near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, where the President was spending yet another weekend.

The First Golfer wasn’t pleased. To avoid the protesters, one of whom was carrying a sign that said, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Czar, Putin Put You Where You Are,” his motorcade was forced to take a circuitous route back from Trump International Golf Club, where he had played his sixteenth round since taking office. (That figure comes courtesy of a tally by the Palm Beach Post.) The following morning, Easter Sunday, Trump took to Twitter, grumbling, “Someone should look into who paid for the small organized rallies yesterday. The election is over!”…”

Donald Trump Has a Conflict of Interest in Turkey. Just Ask Donald Trump article from Mother Jones. –
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2017/04/trump-turkey-erdogan-conflict-interest

“Several media outlets have slammed President Donald Trump for congratulating Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on winning a referendum that will bolster his autocratic power and weaken that nation’s democracy. International observers say the referendum took place on an “unlevel playing field” and voting irregularities raise questions about the outcome. A brief White House summary of Trump’s call to Erdogan did not reference any such concerns. Ultimately, if the referendum stands, Turkey will shift from a parliamentary government to one largely controlled by the president—though many of the changes strengthening the president’s powers won’t take place until after the next election in 2019. (It’s worth noting that before Erdogan became president, the role of this office was primarily ceremonial.)

And there’s also another troubling layer to this story: Trump’s business ties to Turkey create a conflict of interest. That’s according to Trump himself. As Mother Jones reported in November, Trump mentioned his Turkey-related conflicts in 2015 during a conversation with Steve Bannon, who was then the executive chairman of Breitbart News. (Bannon would go on to become Trump’s chief strategist.)

On Bannon’s radio show, Breitbart News Daily, Trump said on December 1, 2015, “I have a little conflict of interest ’cause I have a major, major building in Istanbul. It’s a tremendously successful job. It’s called Trump Towers—two towers, instead of one, not the usual one, it’s two.”…”
