CNN: Trump Team Gave Russians ‘Thumbs Up’ to Release Hillary Smears article from Mother Jones. –

“CNN has some breaking news:

The FBI has information that indicates associates of President Donald Trump communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, US officials told CNN….The FBI is now reviewing that information, which includes human intelligence, travel, business and phone records and accounts of in-person meetings.

….One law enforcement official said the information in hand suggests “people connected to the campaign were in contact and it appeared they were giving the thumbs up to release information when it was ready.” But other U.S. officials who spoke to CNN say it’s premature to draw that inference from the information gathered so far since it’s largely circumstantial.

Apparently this is all “raising suspicions” among counterintelligence officers about ties between Russia and the Trump campaign…”

Trump is an ineffective president for the same reason he was an effective candid article from Think Progress. –

“Weak party organization helped him win the Republican nomination, but it’s also sinking Trumpcare.

There was a time?—?and it wasn’t really all that long ago?—?when Donald Trump seemed all but unstoppable.

He spent the 2016 Republican primary swiftly dispatching a series of more experienced and better financed opponents. It wasn’t until the general election that his aura of invincibility started to fade?—?only to be reaffirmed when he pulled off a surprise victory over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, despite her popular vote majority.

But the days of constant winning are over. The early signs of this were his perpetually depressed approval rating and his quixotic attempts to implement a Muslim ban that the federal courts would find palatable. But his biggest defeat yet is still unfolding, as House Republicans struggle to salvage what’s left of Trump’s proposed Obamacare replacement. The president’s first big-ticket piece of legislation has turned into an unmitigated fiasco…”

The White House may have skirted federal law to try and save its failing health care bill article from Think Progress. –

In what appears to be becoming common practice for the Trump cabal, it appears another law has been broken:

“Several official Twitter accounts lobbied Congress in support of the AHCA bill.

On Thursday morning, as the Trump administration frantically tried to save its deeply unpopular Affordable Care Act replacement bill, White House social media director Dan Scavino Jr. tweeted out a message to Trump’s dwindling pool of supporters urging them to call their congressperson in support of the American Health Care Act.

Hours later, similarly worded tweets were sent from the official @POTUS account and Donald Trump’s personal account…”

‘Why do you say that I have to apologize?’: Trump clashes with reporter who asks repeatedly about false claims article from Business Insider on Yahoo! News. –

“Time magazine’s Washington bureau chief, Michael Scherer, confronted President Donald Trump over his history of making statements without providing evidence, saying in an interview published Thursday that “people in your position in the Oval Office have not said things unless they can verify they are true.”

Scherer pressed the president to explain controversial allegations, most recently his claim that President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower, which law-enforcement officials have rebutted.

“There’s other things you said that haven’t panned out,” Scherer said. “The peg for this story is the wiretapping hearing on Monday, in which Comey and Rogers testified about your tweets there,” he added, referring to FBI Director James Comey and National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers.

Trump argued that he had predicted many events of the past year, including his election victory and Brexit, although in June he appeared to be unfamiliar with Britain’s referendum on its membership in the European Union…”

Bernie Sanders Shares His Blueprint for Resisting Trump article from AlterNet. –

“The Vermont senator attributes the failure of Trumpcare to civic engagement.

Republican leadership failed to secure enough votes from Congress Thursday to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) attributes its failure to a burgeoning resistance movement.

On Thursday, the Vermont senator explained how civic engagement translates into policy changes in the nation’s capital.

“Republicans historically had their town meetings. Thirty or 50 of their friends would show up, and they talked about cutting the deficit and cutting Social Security and Medicare, and everybody would applaud,” he told Rachel Maddow Thursday. “But now you’ve seen people coming and saying, if you do this, my wife is going to die and I’m not going to let you do that.”

“You’re seeing members of Congress, Republicans, having to sneak out the back door or claim ‘I’m worried about my safety, I can’t even hold a town meeting.’ That’s our goal,” Sanders said, referring to the overflowing town meetings that are getting Republicans’ attention…”

Mr. President, The Disgrace Is All Yours article from Common Dreams. –

“President Trump called himself “instinctual” this week, but the word he must have been groping for was “untruthful.” He lies incessantly, shamelessly, perhaps even pathologically, and his lying corrodes and dishonors our democracy.

Of course we’ve had presidents who lied — to name a few, Lyndon Johnson about Vietnam, Richard Nixon about Watergate, Bill Clinton about Monica Lewinsky. But the key word in these examples is “about.” Other presidents had comprehensible though illegitimate reasons for lying about specific things. Trump often lies for no discernible purpose other than to pump up his own fragile ego.

He even lies about his own lies. In an interview with Time magazine, he made the “instinctual” claim and portrayed himself as a modern-day Nostradamus. “I predicted a lot of things,” he claimed. “Some things that came to you a little bit later. But, you know, we just rolled out a list.”

His list begins with Sweden. At a rally in Florida last month, Trump made an ominous reference to “what’s happening last night in Sweden.” In fact, nothing remarkable had happened in Sweden the previous night; Trump apparently saw a news report about immigration issues there, and must have mistakenly thought he heard a reference to a specific recent event — an honest mistake, for most people…”
