Meet the Hundreds of Crony Officials Trump Has Quietly Installed Across the Government article from ProPublica. –

“A Trump campaign aide who argues that Democrats committed “ethnic cleansing” in a plot to “liquidate” the white working class. A former reality show contestant whose study of societal collapse inspired him to invent a bow-and-arrow-cum-survivalist multi-tool. A pair of healthcare industry lobbyists. A lobbyist for defense contractors. An “evangelist” and lobbyist for Palantir, the Silicon Valley company with close ties to intelligence agencies. And a New Hampshire Trump supporter who has only recently graduated from high school.

These are some of the people the Trump administration has hired for positions across the federal government, according to documents received by ProPublica through public-records requests.

While President Trump has not moved to fill many jobs that require Senate confirmation, he has quietly installed hundreds of officials to serve as his eyes and ears at every major federal agency, from the Pentagon to the Department of Interior.

Unlike appointees exposed to the scrutiny of the Senate, members of these so-called “beachhead teams” have operated largely in the shadows, with the White House declining to publicly reveal their identities…”

Bernie Sanders on Trump and the resistance: ‘Despair is not an option’ article from the Guardian. –

“When Donald Trump delivered his first address to Congress 10 days ago, sticking dutifully, for once, to the teleprompter, the media praised him for sounding statesmanlike and presidential. But one person, sitting in a front row seat just a few feet away, thought differently.

Bernie Sanders was growing more aghast with every sentence. Then, when Trump began to talk about the environment, the 75-year-old independent senator from Vermont nearly laughed out loud. Earlier that day, the president signed an executive order that gutted federal controls against the pollution of rivers and waterways. Now he was standing before US legislators pledging to “promote clean air and clear water”.

“The hypocrisy was beyond belief!” says Sanders, still scarcely able to contain himself. “To talk about protecting clean air and water on the same day that you issue an order that will increase pollution of air and water!…”

(It helps to remember that sometimes you need to take on sociopaths directly. Keep reminding Trump that minority-elect President’s don’t have mandates).

Samantha Bee Lays Waste to Trump’s New Sycophants in the Press: ‘What the F*ck Is Wrong with You? article from AlterNet. –

“President Trump’s first speech to Congress last Tuesday was largely praised by pundits. Samantha Bee couldn’t believe her ears.

“What the f*ck is wrong with you?” she exclaimed, after playing a showreel that included the likes of Van Jones and Martha Raddatz.

By that Friday, the president was besieged by yet another scandal—this one resulting in Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ recusal from an ongoing White House investigation.

“With a nervous nation starting to wonder whether Tiffany [Trump] is the only person of Trump’s acquaintance not talking to the Kremlin, the president did what any strong leader would—hightailed it to Florida faster than a Jewish grandmother in November,” Bee quipped…”

The blame game: Should Democrats worry about Trump letting Obamacare fail? article from Yahoo! News. –

“WASHINGTON — President Trump reportedly has a backup plan if congressional Republicans are unable to pass repeal-and-replace legislation for Obamacare: blame Democrats.

In a closed-door meeting earlier this week with conservative lawmakers and groups who have raised objections to the controversial replace plan, Trump said that Democrats would take the blame if the GOP cannot reach an agreement on it and the bill fails, according to CNN.

Trump has made a similar claim several times in the past.

“From a purely political standpoint, the single best thing we can do is nothing,” he told supporters at CPAC last month. “Let it implode completely — it’s already imploding. You see the carriers are all leaving. I mean, it’s a disaster…”

First-time voter who voted for Trump is double sad that her insurance looks like a nightmare now article from the Daily Kos. –

“While Trump and other Republicans try to play the game of musical chairs with the blame surrounding the disaster that is Trumpcare, there are millions of people anxiously waiting to see what will actually happen to their health insurance. First time voter 55-year-old Martha Brawley was interviewed by the New York Times and ABC News recently.

Brawley, a resident of Monroe, North Carolina, said she fears the new Republican health insurance bill will significantly raise her premiums.

“I’m 55. This is the first time in my life I voted, and I voted for Trump hoping that he would change the insurance so I could get good health care,” she told ABC News. “I might as well have not voted.”

Not to be callous, but “might as well have not voted” is another bad decision on Ms. Brawley’s part. She should have voted for Hillary Clinton if not for anything else but health insurance issues. In Ms. Brawley’s defense, the Republican Party has done a great job of freaking people out about Obamacare, while somehow pretending that the Affordable Care Act was a different thing altogether…”

“Failure to pass a bill reveals the White House’s weakness. But passing the bill will ravage Trump’s base article from Common Dreams.

Donald Trump has slapped his name on all kinds of things over the years, but he’s met an edifice he’s hesitating to brand, and that’s the House GOP’s Obamacare replacement. The president has sent mixed messages over the last few days about how hard he’s going to publicly sell the disastrous House bill. So far, only the Democrats are calling it “Trumpcare.”

But this is shaping up to become Trumpcare, and the neophyte president’s behind-closed-doors wheeling and dealing with the bill’s conservative critics are making sure that it either can’t pass—or if it does, that it will wallop the white working-class voters who are his base.

The image-conscious White House has vacillated on how involved the president should appear to be with the House bill. Trump hailed it with an enthusiastic tweet on Tuesday as “our wonderful new Healthcare Bill.” Several follow-up tweets defended the bill from its Republican critics, while reassuring them that all will be well. On Wednesday night, administration officials were telling reporters that Trump would “barnstorm” to win over recalcitrant Republicans—or rally their constituents against them. The Huffington Post reported he was going to ride Air Force One straight to Kentucky—home of Senator Rand Paul, the only senator who has said flat-out that he opposes the bill…”
