Verify Your Voter Registration Status

With plans underway to steal this election — according to Robert Kennedy Jr., there are about 30 scams the Republicans are deliberately using, particularly in swing states to get Democratic voters off the election rolls courtesy of the Help America Vote Act of 2002 and a whistleblower detailed the Bush administration’s election fraud past and present. Attempts are being made by unscrupulous factions of the Bush administration to see history repeat itself — if you intend to vote, it is imperative that you make sure you are registered to vote. One more rigged election, putting a bigger idiot than the one already in office, would be a major disaster for what is left of this country.

Officials are expecting chaos and pandemonium on November 4 due to a huge turnout of voters. Some swing states are still unprepared for the voting problems they’re expecting due to spikes in newly registered Democratic voters.

Civil Rights groups reportedly fear that an unprecedented minority voter turnout due to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama might be countered by efforts to intimidate or otherwise block people seeking to cast their ballots. In the near future I’ll detail more of the election fraud fiasco and why we need to deal with all the criminals in Washington but for now, you need to verify your registration before the filing deadline in your state.

More than a million people have reportedly lost their homes through foreclosure in the last two years, and many of them are still registered to vote at the address of the home they lost. Many of these voters will be disqualified at the polls because they didn’t notify their election board of their new address, resulting in some being forced to vote with a provisional ballot or being challenged by Partisan poll watchers.

Colorado, Florida, Michigan and Ohio — crucial swing states — have many of the nation’s highest foreclosure rates. According to the New York Times, the issue has begun to have political ramifications because many homeowners in foreclosure are black or poor, and are considered probable Democratic voters in many areas. Federal Election Officials are concerned that voters are not being properly informed of how to update their addresses.

Protect Your Vote

Directly below are six simple steps — posted in the Protect your vote article from People’s Weekly World for Ohioans — that will help make sure your vote counts on election day.

First, call your local elections office before Election Day to verify the location of your polling place.

Second, bring some form of identification to the polls, preferably a government-issued photo ID.

Third, ask for help from poll workers and check posted information signs if you have questions or need assistance at the polls.

Fourth, if you are in line at the polling place when the polls close, do not leave. You’re still entitled to vote.

Fifth, if you are offered a provisional ballot, ask if you can cast a regular ballot instead by providing additional ID or by going to another polling place. If there are no other options, cast the provisional ballot.

Sixth, if you have a voting rights problem, ask to speak to an election official or to a voting rights volunteer, or call the toll-free voting rights hotline 1-866-OUR-VOTE, operated by a nonpartisan coalition of groups, including the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and the AFL-CIO.

Verify Your Voter Registration Status

EAC Chair Calls on Voters to Prepare and Confirm before November Election Register Early and Verify Registration Status WASHINGTON- U.S. Election Assistance Commission Chair Rosemary Rodriguez today reminded voters to make sure they are registered to vote for the 2008 presidential election. Joining with the National Association of Secretaries of State, which has declared September 2008 National Voter Registration Month, Chair Rodriguez offered several steps citizens can take to ensure they are registered.

“New and returning voters should take steps now to make sure they are ready to participate in the November election,” said Chair Rodriguez.  “People who have registered for the first time should confirm that they provided all of the necessary information and are indeed registered. For returning voters, verify that the registration is current and valid.”

Chair Rodriguez recommends taking the following steps:

Know the registration deadline

Most states require citizens to register 15 to 30 days before the federal election. Deadlines for each state are available at http://www.eac.gov/. Citizens can register by filling out their state’s registration form or the National Mail Voter Registration Form, which can be downloaded at http://www.eac.gov/. Military and overseas voters should register by filling out the Federal Post Card Application, which is available at http://www.fvap.gov/. This form should be submitted at least 45 days before the election.

Follow registration instructions carefully

It’s important that registration forms are filled in completely and legibly. If critical information is missing, such as a signature or address, a form could be rejected.

Those who’ve moved should update their registration

Any time a voter moves they must reregister with their new elections board. This is especially important for military and overseas voters, who risk not receiving their absentee ballot if they fail to update their registration after a move. Voters should also contact their former elections office and ask them to remove their name from their registration list.

Confirm registration with elections office

Citizens who have registered to vote this election cycle, and did not receive an official registration confirmation from their elections office, should call their local office to confirm they are in fact registered. It’s important to do this before the state’s registration deadline to ensure there’s time to re-register, if necessary. Contact information, including phone numbers and Web site addresses, for state election offices is available at http://www.eac.gov/.
